Artist's Description

The Arado Ar 196 was arguably the best sea plane of World War II. It was the standard aircraft of the Kriegsmarine throughout the war and aso served with land based units in the Baltic and Mediterranean seas. The aircraft was well armed with one 7.92mm machine gun as well as two 20mm cannon. The Ar 196 could also carry two 50kg bombs. The aircraft was used to escort shipping in the Mediterranean as well as for antisubmarine duties in the Baltic sea and for bomber intercept missions. This print shows an Ar 196A-3 aircraft on patrol in the Aegean sea.
