Description
What was the greatest airplane of WWII? Well if you were an downed airman and spent several days adrift at sea the answer might be the airplane that rescued you. The Grumman Duck was one such plane. This print shows a model J2F-2 Duck depicted in the colorful markings of Marine Squadron VMS-3 circa 1940. The squadron was based in the Virgin Islands and performed "Neutrality Patrol" along with search and rescue duties before the US entered the war. This unsung hero is shown passing over a serene island beach as she heads out on patrol.
