Artist's Description
The USS Wisconsin is an Iowa Class battleship. Commissioned in April of 1944, she served in the Pacific in support of the fast carrier task forces as well as taking part in the bombardment of Okinawa as well as Hokkaido, Japan. The ship was caught at sea with the rest of 3rd Fleet's Fast Carrier Task Force (TF 38) in Typhoon Cobra. Three destroyers were lost to the storm. The ship also fought during the Korean War and Desert Storm. USS Wisconsin survives today as a memorial in Norfolk, VA. Wisconsin earned five battle stars for her World War II service, and one for the Korean War. This print shows "Big Wisky" during the bombardment of Japan on July 16, 1945.
