Artist's Description

The Lightning was developed by English Electric as a fighter and interceptor aircraft. It remains the only UK designed and built production fighter which is capable of Mach 2. These qualities resulted in the Lightning being a superb interceptor aircraft. After some initial teething problems the aircraft was beloved by most pilots who flew it. This artwork depicts the Lightning doing what it was designed to do - intercepting a Soviet bomber.
