Artist's Description
Entering service in 1974, the Tomcat served as the US Navy's primary air superiority fighter and interceptor. It's primary weapon was the long range AIM-54 Phoenix missile but it also carried the Sparrow and Sidewinder missiles for short and medium range targets as well as being armed with an internal 20mm cannon. Steadily updated through the years, the Tomcat remained the Navy's main fighter for 3 decades. The Tomcat was retired in 2006 after 32 years of excellent service. This print features the F-14 Tomcat in the markings of Robert "Hoot" Gibson's airplane he flew with VF-1 in the 1970s.
